Another Busy Weekend: Valerie Fund Walk and a Pool Party

This past Saturday was a bit insane.  I was up at 6 a.m. to get down to Verona Park for the Valerie Fund Walk, since my team and I were to start painting (and twisting) at 8:30.  We all made it in time, and once the booth was set up, we were ready to go.  Four toasty, busy, humid hours later, we were tired, but happy.  It's really just such a good-natured, great bunch of people doing a wonderful thing.

Of course, we were moving like speed demons, so I couldn't get many photos, but there are a few.

My very first request was for my very first lamb.

Not bad for winging it, but I'll work on it.

Later in the day, my first monarch butterfly in a really, really long time.

There was also this shark that the wearer and I thought just came out really cute.

And then... and then... two requests I'd never even heard of.  First, Adam Acid.  I had to look him up.  Turns out, he's a Lego character.  Okie doke!

He was ecstatic!  And honestly, I was almost as impressed as his mom was that I more or less pulled it off.

And then, this.

It's apparently the logo for some boy band, the name of which I forgot almost exactly as soon as she said it, and I can't find it online.  If anyone knows what it is, tell me?  I'm curious!  'Cause when I try to search Google images for "current boy band logos," I get the logos for Korn, Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and Fox News... which just isn't right.  Help!

From there, I traipsed on up to Franklin Lakes to do glitter and ink tattoos at a pool party. No photos at all at this one! I was kept really busy, with each girl getting two tattoos, and some of the moms getting in on the action too. It was a blast!

Busy, Busy Weekend: Birthday Party

Last Sunday, Eric and I got to work a birthday party together - him twisting balloons and me face painting.  We were so busy, I took hardly any photos, and none of him working, but once the birthday girl got a white wolf, they were a popular item.

Neons were a hit too - neon everything!

Including this"neon monster high turtle with pink lipstick," a request I've never had before in my life... mostly because it doesn't exist and this young lady made it up!

And that, that right there, is why I don't bring examples with me to events!

Oh, and dad?  He got the Hulk.

Busy, Busy Weekend: JW's Doo Wop & Ice Cream Shop

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to paint faces all during the beautiful afternoon at the first anniversary party of JW's Doo Wop & Ice Cream Parlor in West Milford.

You know it's going to be a great day when you say you'll try any request and the very first kid takes you up on it and asks for an owl!

And last, but not least...

Busy, Busy Weekend: Zoo Do

Friday night was a busy start to the weekend, so busy, even with four of us face painting, that I only had time for a very few photos.

My very first bobcat request...

... and an exceptionally adorable unicorn.

The rest was a blur of faces, as we raced to get them all done.  I do love a busy event like this.

New Party Service!

Canvas painting!  Traveling canvas painting, in fact.  I'll come to your location with everything needed and have a painting class for anyone ages 5 and up!

The difference between my classes and other canvas painting classes?  I use techniques geared toward actually teaching children (and adults) how to draw the subject based on simple shapes, as well as some color theory, giving the budding artists not only the one completed painting (what a party favor!), but also some skills to take home with them and use in the future as well.

For example, check out the shapes used to draw this honeybee, the request of a very creative 12-year-old girly-girl whose favorite color is blue.

Also, I cater each painting subject to the party honoree's preferences, rather than just working from a limited collection of choices, so each party is completely different!  Nothing is out of the realm of possibility!  You tell me a favorite animal, place, or activity, and I'll design the painting just for your party.

On top of all that, because I really do love to teach, children at canvas painting parties can expect to have fun leaning some facts about the subject matter of the painting as well!  Want to know about the differences between African and Asian elephants?  Invite me to your next party!

I think they're pretty darned cute, too!

Communion Season Again!

And I was back at Bottagra Restaurant again last weekend with the same great kids who came up with the soccer-playing elephant last year!

And I love the ones who won't look away from the mirror!
